OSHA Electrical Standard Updated
OSHA has revised its general industry electrical installation standard found in 29 CFR Part 1910 Subpart S. The new standard became effective August 13, 2007. The 2000 edition of NFPA 70E was used as the foundation for the revised standard. The revision to the standard will better align OSHA requirements with many state and local building codes, which have adopted updated NFPA and NEC provisions.
The new standard focuses on safety in the design and installation of electric equipment in the workplace. The updated standard includes a new alternative method for classifying and installing equipment in Class I hazardous locations and new requirements for ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs). Here is just a friendly reminder to make sure your facility is up-to-date with standards defined by OSHA, NFPA, NEC, NSC, and other relevant organizations.
