Shielding Gases for Laser Beam Welding (LBW) |
|
|
|
An inert
shielding gas is used to protect the molten pool from the atmosphere, keep
spatter levels minimal and remove the plasma cloud, which can absorb the
laser beam. Shielding gases most commonly used are pure helium, pure argon
and helium/argon mixes. Industrial grade gases are generally of sufficient
purity when utilized as an assist gas and are supplied by cylinders, banks or
bulk according to volume and pressure requirements. |
